The boil water advisories for most areas in Sedgwick and Butler counties affected by a major water pipe break last week are over.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment on Sunday lifted advisories for Bel Aire, Derby, Rose Hill, Benton, Kechi, Valley Center, McConnell Air Force Base and Sedgwick County Rural Water Districts 1 and 3. The city of Wichita’s advisory was lifted Saturday.
Residents in Sedgwick County Rural Water District No. 2, however, should continue to boil their tap water before drinking or cooking with it until further notice, the KDHE said.
The areas, which purchase water from the city of Wichita, have been under a boil water advisory since a major pipe broke in Wichita on Thursday afternoon.
The break, around I-135 and 17th Street North in Wichita, flooded surrounding neighborhoods and left the city of Wichita and several other Sedgwick County communities without drinkable tap water.
The KDHE, in news releases Sunday, said laboratory testing samples collected from the areas showed “no evidence of bacteriological contamination and all other conditions that placed the system at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be resolved.”
If you have questions, contact the water system in your area or call the KDHE at 785-296-5514. Other consumer information is available on the KDHE’s Public Water System Consumer Information page at www.kdheks.gov/pws/emergencyresponse/water_disruption.htm.
