Things keep getting stranger for Wichita restaurants, who already have been struggling with the after-effects of COVID-19 and now are tasked with figuring out how to operate during a city-wide water boil advisory, which was issued after a water main break on Thursday and persisted into Friday.
Many restaurants have opted to remain closed on Friday, especially those that deal mainly in drinks. Others are open and assuring customers via social media that they’re doing what it takes to keep them safe, including serving only canned and bottled drinks.
Here’s what some Wichita restaurants are doing on Friday. If you’re planning to head out to eat, it might be a good idea to call ahead and make sure your restaurant of choice is open.
Buffalo Wings and Rings, 2636 N. Greenwich: Open for carryout only
Crafted, 9730 E. 21st St. North: Closed on Friday
Crutch BBQ/Dempsey’s, 550 N. Rock Road: Closed on Friday
El Mexico Cafe, 2544 S Seneca St: Closed on Friday
El Viejito Mexican Restaurant, 4722 S. Broadway: Closed on Friday
Espresso to Go Go, 102 St. Francis: Closed on Friday and Saturday
Fairmount Coffee Co., 3815 E. 37th St. North: Closed until further notice
Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers: All Wichita and Derby restaurants are open only for drive-through while the boil advisory is in effect. The Rock Road store is open for carryout only. No fountain drinks but canned and bottled drinks are available.
HTeaO, 1290 N. Tyler: Closed until boil advisory lifts
Leslie Coffee Co., 930 W. Douglas: Closed on Friday and Saturday
Pizza Ranch, 2121 N. Tyler Road: Open but asking customers to bring their own beverages if possible
Pho Ong 8, 3801 E. Harry: Closed until further notice.
Sonic: All Wichita restaurants are closed, but the Sonic in Haysville is open.
Spangles: Local restaurants are open but there’s no coffee, tea or fountain drinks, though the restaurants will be serving some Pepsi products from 2-liters. Desserts may be limited. No bagged ice for sale for now.
Starbucks: All Wichita stores appear to be closed on Friday.
Sunflower Espresso, 500 Topeka: Cafe in Fireworx closed but coffee bus is serving until 1 p.m. at Hillside Feed and Seed.
Ty’s Diner, 928 W. Second: Closed on Friday, planning to reopen on Saturday
Watermark Cafe, 4710 E. Douglas: Book store open, but cafe closed on Friday
Whiskey Dicks, 801 S. Seneca: Closed on Friday
