Tornado cuts through Sedgwick County and Andover, Kansas

An EF-3 tornado touched down in south-central Kansas on April 29, 2022, leaving damage in its wake, but few injuries. Residents in the Wichita area, Andover and Sedgwick and Butler counties are picking up the pieces.

UPDATE, 4:15 p.m. Wednesday: The final westbound lane of U.S. 54 between Wichita and Andover has reopened after the tornado. It had been closed since Friday while electric transmission lines were repaired.

One westbound lane of U.S. 54 between Wichita and Andover reopened Monday morning after being closed because of tornado damage in the Andover area.

The other westbound lane will remain closed. The closure spans from Yorktown on the west to Meadowlark on the east. Westbound traffic is being directed to slow down, according to a news release.

Eastbound lanes in that stretch of U.S. 54 reopened Saturday after the tornado damage on Friday.
