Wichita police say a man is dead following a shooting in a parking lot on Saturday evening.

The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. outside a laundromat in the 900 block of south Seneca, near Kellogg. Wichita police did not immediately release any identifying information about the victim.

The shooter fled and remained at large Saturday.

Wichita police spokesman Officer Kris Gupilan said the victim was lying wounded in the parking lot when officers arrived at the scene. He was pronounced dead at a Wichita hospital where he was taken for treatment.

Gupilan said preliminary information indicates the shooter confronted the victim in the parking lot before firing at him. Police think the shooting was a targeted incident and “was not a random act of violence,” Gupilan said.

Wichita police Chief Joe Sullivan called the shooting “a completely cowardly act.”

“The circumstances of what led up to the shooting is still under active investigation,” Gupilan said. “ ... Our investigators and our officers are currently following up on leads to locate the suspect.”

He encouraged anyone who has information about the homicide to call Wichita police investigators at 316-268-4407 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
