Sheriff’s Office identifies Clearwater man killed in accidental shooting

An autopsy conducted on a 37-year-old Clearwater man who died after being shot Wednesday morning has concluded that the fatal shooting was accidental.

The investigation into the death of Cody Shane Spencer of Clearwater is still ongoing, a spokesperson with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a press release Thursday. No foul play is suspected.

Spencer was found with a gunshot wound to his leg near the Clearwater post office and liquor store, in the 600 block of North 4th Street, just after 10 a.m. Wednesday. Spencer had been living in a trailer nearby, and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, the press release said.

Clearwater police requested the help of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, which is now leading the investigation into Spencer’s death.
