A shooting at an east Wichita laundromat Saturday prompted a helicopter, drone and K-9 pursuit that ended with a suspect in custody.

The incident was reported at the Lincoln East Laundromat just before 6 p.m., Andrew Ford, chief public information officer with the Wichita Police Department, confirmed in an email to the Eagle.

At the laundromat, officers found a 59-year-old man who had been shot in his wrist and lower body, Ford said. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

The person suspected of shooting the man left on foot before police arrived, Ford said.

“Officers set up a perimeter and, with assistance from the Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter, drone, and a K-9 unit, a suspect was located,” Ford wrote.

The man was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of aggravated assault, criminal discharge of a firearm and other charges. The Wichita Eagle does not name people unless they are formally charged.
