Food Network’s new ’50 States of Diners’ list includes a Wichita favorite
Another day, another mention on a national list for Wichita’s Doo-Dah Diner.
This time, it’s Food Network’s website, which just published a list titled “50 States of Diners.” It singles out Doo-Dah Diner for having “a vibe as whimsical as its name — with mismatched thrifted dishware, hipster cocktail party music and an over-the-top menu of creative comfort food.”
The author of the list also mentioned by name Richard Holmes, the octogenarian who eats at the diner nearly every day and who documents conversations he has and people he meets as part of his “Counter Chat” blog on Doo-Dah’s website. I featured him in a story last year.
The list also names a few diners in nearby states that wouldn’t be too hard to drive to. The Oklahoma representative, for example, is Shortcake’s Diner in Stillwater.
This is hardly the only big mention for Doo-Dah Diner, whose already high profile has risen since owners Patrick and Timirie Shibley remodeled the restaurant this year, doubling the seating capacity.
This summer, www.reviews.org named the diner the best restaurant in the state. And in 2018, the diner made a list of “best Restaurants for a Celebrity Spotting” and “Best Breakfast Sandwich.”
Last October, People Magazine even included the diner on a list of “Your Favorite Breakfast in Every State.”
