Three children, two adults dead after trucks collide in Hodgeman County, KHP says
Two adults and three children died Thursday in a crash on K-156 Highway in Hodgeman County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the wreck involved two trucks: a Dodge Dakota and a Ford Ranger. The crash happened after the 48-year-old Garden City man who was driving the Dodge overcorrected when the truck’s passenger-side tires left the road. The Dodge then “rotated into” the Ford, which was in the oncoming lane of traffic, a crash report says.
A 29-year-old Garden City woman, Brianna Mae Katherine Kauffman, and three children — 3-year-old RaLeah Mae Kauffman, 5-year-old RyKer Kole Kauffman and 7-year-old Ryder Keith Kauffman — were passengers in the Dodge truck. They were all killed in the crash, the KHP said. The driver survived but was hospitalized with possible serious injuries.
The man driving the Ford Ranger, 45-year-old Adam William Edwards of Garden City — was also killed, according to the crash report.
The crash happened shortly after 1 p.m. about 1 1/2 miles west of Hanston. Hodgeman County is about a three-hour drive west of Wichita.
