A 68-year-old man is dead after a crash south of Augusta on Wednesday.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office said Michael D. Strack, of rural Augusta, was driving a 2021 Ford Edge southbound on U.S. Highway 77 around Southwest 150th Street when he veered off the road toward the ditch.

“The Ford Edge went over a raised field access causing it to go airborne, landing front end first in the ditch. When emergency crews first arrived, Strack was still in the vehicle but (was) extricated very quickly,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Strack was taken to a hospital in Wichita. He died there, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities think Strack wrecked after suffering a medical condition. The crash happened around 5:15 p.m.
