Kansas man who murdered his wife is sentenced to life in prison

A northwest Kansas man has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of murder in the killing of his wife.

Alifonso Eduardo Garcia, 37, of Plainville, was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for at least 50 years, Attorney General Derek Schmidt said in a news release. Garcia was found guilty last month by a Rooks County jury of first-degree premeditated murder in the March 19, 2018, death of Alexis Diane Garcia.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said after the killing that the 24-year-old woman was his wife. Alexis Garcia was found dead at the couple’s home. Kansas Department of Corrections officials said she had been an officer at the Norton Correctional Facility’s satellite unit in Stockton. She was also a mother of one, according to an obituary.
