Father of infant twins charged with murder in death of 2-month-old son in Wichita

A Wichita man has been charged with murder in the death of his infant son.

Prosecutors added the first-degree murder charge against Marlin D. Williams Jr. in Sedgwick County District Court on Wednesday after his son died last week. Williams was previously charged with aggravated battery for injuries to his twin 2-month-old children.

Wichita police said one child, Marrell Williams, died Thursday after languishing for about a week in a hospital.

Williams, 22, was arrested by Wichita police after officers were called Jan. 10 to a home in the 2800 block of South Emporia for a child who was not breathing. Police found a 2-month-old boy — Marrell — and he was taken to a hospital, where medical personnel found that he had critical internal injuries.

Investigators determined he had both new and old injuries. Police have not disclosed exactly what happened to him, other than to suggest he was beaten.

Prosecutors allege that Marrell was killed in the commission of aggravated endangerment of a child. Dates listed in court documents state that the old injuries to his body were sustained sometime between Dec. 10 and Jan. 1 and the new ones on Jan. 10.

Investigators also found that Marrell’s twin sister had a healing broken femur. The baby’s leg bone was broken sometime between Christmas and New Year’s, according to dates in court documents.

The dad remains held in the Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
