Arrest made in northwest Kansas death

A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman in Plainville earlier this week, authorities announced on Wednesday.

Alifonso Eduardo Garcia was arrested at 5 a.m. Monday by Plainville police on suspicion of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, 24-year-old Alexis Garcia, according to a statement released by the the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

Alexis Garcia was found dead shortly before 5 a.m. Monday at the couple's house in Plainville. authorities have said. Alifonso Garcia is at Salina Regional Health Center and is being held on a bond of $1 million.

A statement on the El Dorado Correctional Facility's Facebook page said Alexis Garcia was an officer at the Norton Correctional Facility's satellite unit in Stockton.

She is the daughter of a senior administrative assistant at the El Dorado Correctional Facility, the statement said.

The attorney general's office will determine what charges to file, according to the KBI statement.
