More than a dozen popular Wichita-area attractions will open their doors to Kansas kids for free starting this week.

The program — known as Sunflower Summer — makes it possible for all Kansas children enrolled in pre-K through 12th grade to visit more than 230 “must-see attractions” for free. Nineteen of those attractions are in the Wichita area.

“An unforgettable, affordable summer getaway awaits Kansas families in Wichita, where you can find a variety of FREE attractions to explore all summer,” Visit Wichita said. The program is offered by Kansas Tourism and the Kansas Department of Commerce.

Here’s what you need to know before taking advantage of Sunflower Summer in Wichita.

Sunflower Summer 2026 dates

The 2026 Sunflower Summer program is expected to run from July 9 through Aug. 2, though the program may be shortened based on the amount of use as a set amount of funding was approved by the Kansas Legislature.

All updates to the timeline will be available on the Sunflower Summer app, available on Apple and Android devices.

Sunflower Summer eligibility

All Kansas students from pre-K through high school are able to take part in Sunflower Summer. This includes children in public, private and home school programs.

One adult may accompany their students with a free ticket voucher. Other adults must pay standard admission.

“Users will still be able to transfer student tickets to other trusted Kansas residents via the app (ex. transferring to grandparents or daycare providers), but only one adult admission will be covered by the program,” officials said.

Students may visit every attraction one time for free.

“Please remember that users are only to claim tickets to an attraction once per season, so make sure you plan your road trips wisely!” Kansas Tourism says. You can go to as many different attractions as you would like each day.

To claim your tickets, you’ll need to download the Sunflower Summer app. If you do not have a smartphone, you can request a paper voucher on site at staffed attractions.
