A 49-year-old Wichita man was killed and two children were hurt in a weekend crash in Sumner County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says Marty Vannordstrand was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram north on Oliver about a mile north of Belle Plaine when the crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday.

Vannordstrand “began to pass in a no passing zone at train tracks, lost control of the vehicle and went into the west ditch and slid into a tree,” according to a KHP crash report.

A 9-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy who live in Belle Plaine were passengers in the vehicle. They were both hospitalized with serious injuries, the KHP said.
