A 53-year-old Wichita man is dead after he was hit by a truck on eastbound K-96 just west of Meridian on Friday morning.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says James Butts walked out onto the highway around 11 a.m. and was struck by a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado.

The truck was pulling an enclosed trailer and was driving in the middle lane at the time. The reason Butts was in the roadway wasn’t included in a KHP crash log.

The Tulsa man driving the truck wasn’t hurt.
