One in custody after car crash, shooting at north-central Wichita intersection
A man was hospitalized early Sunday after a crash and a shooting involving another driver.
The incident was reported as a two-vehicle traffic crash at 2:08 a.m. Sunday, Wichita police public information officer Kris Gupilan said in an email to The Eagle. When officers arrived at the intersection of 13th and Mosley, they found a 42-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper torso in the passenger seat of one of the involved vehicles.
Crews provided life-saving care before the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Gupilan identified the other driver involved in the crash as a 21-year-old man. He remained at the scene and was taken into police custody for questioning, he said.
“Preliminary investigation indicates the crash occurred between the two vehicles, followed by a disturbance between the involved parties,” Gupilan wrote. “During the altercation, the 21-year-old driver discharged a firearm, striking the 42-year-old passenger.”
Detectives continue to interview witnesses and gather evidence, Gupilan said. Once completed, the case will be presented to the district attorney’s office for charging consideration.
