Authorities ID Wichita man found dead after crashing into bridge
Authorities have identified a 39-year-old Wichita man who died Tuesday after his truck struck a bridge near K-15 highway and 55th Street South.
Luis M. Cardenas was pronounced dead at the scene, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Branden Stitt said in an update Wednesday.
A Kansas Department of Transportation worker found the wrecked Ford F-250 pickup truck just north of the intersection around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.
“According to the preliminary investigation by the (Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office) Major Crash Team, the pickup was traveling south in the 5400 block of South K-15 when, for an unknown reason, it left the roadway and struck the bridge railing. The impact caused the driver to be ejected from the vehicle,” Stitt said by email.
“An autopsy and toxicology testing will help determine whether impairment was a factor in the crash,” he said.
Cardenas was the only person in the truck when it crashed.
