The crash was reported at 7:08 a.m. at North Hesston Road and Northwest 36th Street, which is northwest of North Newton, Harvey County Public Information Officer Kyle McCaskey said in a news release.

Peter Hartman of Hesston was driving a Chrysler Town & Country southeast on Hesston Road when he collided with the semi. At the time, the semi was attempting to make a right-hand turn onto 36th Street from Hesston Road, McCaskey said.

Hartman suffered critical injuries. He was taken to a Wichita hospital for treatment and died there.

McCaskey said only Hartman and the semi driver, a 59-year-old Burrton man, were involved in the collision. Neither had passengers in their vehicles.
