A Wichita man was killed in a motorcycle crash shortly before midnight Thursday after colliding with a guard rail

.Jess Chavez, 51, was riding his 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on I-235 near West Street when he left the highway, entered the median and struck the guardrail near the 4.2 mile marker. He was thrown from the bike onto the highway while his motorcycle crashed through a fence before stopping on Bolin Drive.

Chavez, who Kansas Highway Patrol troopers say was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene.
