The Andover restaurant scene was on a roll earlier this year, especially on Andover Road.

Within just a five-month period that started in early spring, Victory Sports Bar opened at 418 N. Andover Rd., Point Nine opened at 1533 N. Andover Rd., and Abode Bar & Bistro opened at 837 N. Andover Rd.

Now, one of them is already closed — but the space won’t stay vacant, its owner said.

Saturday was the last day in business for Abode Bar & Bistro, which Il Primo owner Daniel Mariotti opened in early April in the former Rusted Rooster coffee shop space. It was a split-concept establishment that had a fine-dining bistro on one side and a more casual bar on the other.

Mariotti said on Tuesday that he had to close Abode for personal reasons. But, he said, something else will take over the space, which he remodeled before opening Abode. He didn’t share any more details.

Il Primo, the Wichita coffee shop that Mariotti opened in 1993 and remodeled last year, will remain open and operating as usual, he said.

Abode was intended to bring fine dining to Andover, something Mariotti said he felt was missing there.

A different concept will take over the Abode Bar & Bistro space, said its owner.

The south side of the building was occupied by a family-friendly indoor/outdoor bar that had two retractable doors leading to a front patio. It had its own more casual menu.

The north end of the building offered a more intimate fine-dining space with an upscale menu and seating for 24.

Mariotti said he will provide an update on the next concept for the space when something is settled.
