Food celebrity, self-proclaimed Wichita fan bringing his show back to town after 7 years

Seven years have passed since self-proclaimed Wichita fan and food celebrity Alton Brown was last in town.

But Brown — who’s also famous for popping into local restaurants and coffee shops during his road tours — is coming back. On Monday, the Orpheum Theatre announced that Brown will bring his show “Alton Brown Live: Last Bite” to the venue on Thursday, May 1. (That’s a month before the Orpheum is scheduled to close down for renovations that should last a year.)

As the title might suggest, Brown, 62, says this tour will be his last. He’s known for his comedic, interactive stage tours from the past, including 2014’s “Edible Inevitable” and 2017’s “Eat Your Science,” both of which stopped in Wichita. (He skipped Kansas on his 2022 tour, “Beyond The Eats.”)

Assuming Brown still likes to eat his way across towns he visits, he’ll find a much different dining landscape than existed seven years ago. Back in October 2017, he stopped at both Espresso to Go Go (now closed), 86 Cold Press (now operating as a delivery service).

He also stopped at Nifty Nut House and his longtime go-to coffee shop Reverie Coffee Roasters, but both have since changed addresses.

Who’s to say where Brown — who ahead of his 2017 show told The Eagle that Wichita was among his top 10 favorite cities to visit — will drink and dine when he arrives in the spring? But he’s known to ask locals on his social media channels where he should go ahead of his arrival in town. Which restaurant would you nominate?

Those who want to attend Brown’s show in May can buy tickets starting on Friday (Oct. 11) at www.selectaseat.com, by phone at 316-755-7328 or in person at the Select-a-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena. They’ll range from $48 to $204.
