Owners of one of downtown Wichita’s oldest coffee shops announce plans to close

The Wichita Eagle

It’s been a good run for Warren and Ann Tandoc, who opened their downtown coffee shop in 2013.

But the run is almost over.

On Wednesday, the Tandocs posted on the shop’s Facebook page that they’ll close their Espresso To Go Go at 120 St. Francis for good at the end of business on Saturday.

The message contained Warren Tandoc’s signature humor.

“Thank you for your friendship, kindness, and patronage over these amazing 11 years,” it read. “If it’s been a minute, please come say hi before we recede softly into the ephemera. If you have never been here, it’s too late, foo!”

The post encouraged people to use any gift cards or loyalty points now “or forever hold your peace.”

The Tandocs originally opened their coffee business in 2012 as a mobile coffee shop operating out of a 1973 Airstream Land Yacht. They found the 650-square-foot space in the Zelman building the following year.

During COVID, the Tandocs closed shop to walk-in customers and adopted a to-go only model, serving drinks from a walk-up window on the west-facing side of their space. They decided to keep it that way after COVID restrictions were lifted.

They also had a second location on the ground floor of The Lux, 120 E. First St., which lasted from 2014 until 2020. (Las Adelitas Cafe occupies that spot now.)

The shop is known for its Sid Vicious (seven shots of espresso mixed with five sugars) and its Vietnamericano. In 2014, celebrity chef Alton Brown listed Espresso To Go Go as one of his 10 favorite coffee shops he visited while on tour.

I’ve messaged the Tandocs asking for more details about why they decided to close and will update this post if I hear back.

The hours for the rest of the week will be 7:30 a.m. to noon today through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
