Popular, whimsical Wichita coffee shop closing one of its two locations
Wichita is losing a Unicorn. But its most famous Disco Ball is safe.
On Monday morning, Espresso to Go Go owners Warren and Ann Tandoc announced via Facebook that they would be closing the second location of their Wichita coffee shop, which they opened in 2014 on the ground floor of The Lux apartments at 120 E. First St.
The last day in business will be Friday, the post said.
“Some people might think that this is a step backwards for us or that it is indicative of our ultimate failure, but we defy that notion,” the post read. “Forward momentum is rarely linear and we are getting stronger as we learn, not weaker.”
The post also said that the famous unicorn that hangs in the coffee shop, dubbed Mercurio, would eventually be relocated to the shop’s flagship store at 102 St. Francis. That location, which opened in 2013, is known for the giant disco ball that hangs from the ceiling.
Last week, the shop also announced that it was ending its coffee deliveries, which were based at the about-to-close shop.
The Tandocs originally started their coffee business in 2012 and served out of a vintage Airstream trailer. They were among the pioneers of Wichita’s food truck scene.
