This restaurant lasted only a few weeks after its move. But its star dish will live on.
The owner of several Wichita restaurants is doing some consolidating that includes closing a restaurant that opened just last month.
First, the closing: Pho King ICT, the pho restaurant that in mid-June moved from 4857 E. Harry to the space at 3233 E. Harry that Chick’n Pop had just vacated, is already closed. Its final day was earlier this month.
But the owner of that restaurant — Henry Son — has decided to add the pho soup he was serving there to the menu of another one of his restaurants: Mr. Miyagi at 4041 N. Maize Road. The first day for pho at Mr. Miyagi — which also serves fried rice, hibachi dishes and lo mein — was Tuesday.
Pho will be available only at the Mr. Miyagi on the west side, though. Son has sold the one at 3920 E. Harry, which was the original Mr. Miyagi when it opened in 2021, to new owners.
You can see the updated menu for Mr. Miyagi West below. Under the heading “Mr. Miyagi Fusion,” the menu lists Pho King appetizers like crab Rangoon, dumplings and egg rolls as well as pho made with proteins such as steak, chicken, shrimp, crab meat, meatballs and quail eggs. There’s also a section of spicy miso soups listed.
At one point, Son had three Mr. Miyagi restaurants in Wichita. The Maize Road location was the second and opened in December 2021. He added a third location at 3130 N. Rock Road in 2022, but it closed in November 2023. The Easy Egg has since taken over the Rock Road space.
Chick’n Pop took over the now-empty former Chicago Donuts space at Harry and Hillside in late 2022, selling chicken sandwiches and boba tea. It was run by a former manager at Old Tokyo Steakhouse, which Son also owns, but Chick’n Pop closed in early June.
I’ve reached out to the new owners of Mr. Miyagi on East Harry to see if they plan any changes but haven’t yet heard back.
