An update on new Wichita restaurants coming in June, including two that open this weekend
A few new restaurants that Wichita has been waiting on are ready to open, and a couple will do so this weekend.
Others are just a few weeks away.
Here’s an update on the new dining and drinking establishments you’ll soon be able to check out.
Fleur de Vin, 2721 E. Central: This new French-inspired wine hall is set to open on Saturday at Revolutsia, the shipping container mall at Central and Volutsia. It’s owned by 86 Cold Press founder Austin Dugan and partners Krista Lowry Racine — who is head of leasing for Revolutsia — and Eric Marko, co-owner of charcuterie business Boards, and it will serve a selection of wine on tap, both by the glass and carafe. The wines will all be paired with charcuterie, cheese and toast boards from Boards.
Starting Saturday, its hours will be 2 to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 2 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays. Starting on June 14, owners will add a Sunday mimosa brunch that will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can see the food menu below or check out the food and wine menus at www.fleurdevin.com.
Morris St. Carry Out, 1712 E. Morris: This new restaurant near Lincoln and Hydraulic will have its grand opening on Friday. It’s owned by longtime cook and restaurant manager Brian Hill, and it will serve chicken, fish, barbecue, sandwiches and things like Arkansas-style breaded fried corn.
Hill is taking over a space that once held a club with a not-so-good reputation, and he wants to change that. “I’d like you to be able to bring your mother grandmother down there,” he said.
For now, the restaurant will be open just for carryout though eventually he’ll add seating for seven. Hours will be 5 to 11 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays.
Knolla’s Pizza, 111 W. Douglas: Wichita’s newest Knolla’s is set to open in the former Quizno’s space in downtown Wichita soon. Owners are just waiting on their computer system to arrive, and the restaurant could be open as soon as this weekend or early next week.
The new Knolla’s will offer the same pizzas, both whole and by the slice, and sandwiches that the other Wichita Knolla’s are known for, but the downtown store will also open early to serve breakfast pizzas, cinnamon rolls, smoothies and pastries. I’ll update this post when opening day is certain.
BD’s Mongolian Grill, Douglas and Rock: This new Mongolian barbecue restaurant has an opening date: June 22. The restaurant is taking over the space vacated by Genghis Grill in August 2018, and although franchisee Hamendra Bhakta will be able to open the restaurant fully, he’s planning to take some coronavirus precautions, including starting without his soup and salad bar.
The hours once open will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Bhakta is now hiring staff and encourages anyone interested to visit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays through June 10.
Pizza Ranch, 2121 N. Tyler: As I reported a couple of weeks ago, Wichita’s first Pizza Ranch is set to open on June 29. It’ll feature a fried chicken and pizza buffet plus a salad and a dessert bar. There’s also a big arcade to entertain the kids. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. You can take a video tour of the new restaurant here.
Crazy Horse Supper Club, 2539 W. Pawnee: The revival of this once-popular Wichita supper club is still chugging along. Owner Eric Peabody, grandson of club founder Sam Peabody, had originally planned to open May 18 but was held up by licensing delays. He said he has all the licenses approved now, though, and is now “ironing out the menu.” Watch for an official opening date soon.
