Vacant west-side Wichita space is about to get a new restaurant selling burgers, tacos
Uno Mas translates to “one more” in Spanish, and that appears to be Abel Rodriguez’s approach to opening restaurants in Wichita, too.
One more, then one more, then one more.
Rodriguez, who started his Uno Mas taco truck in 2016 and followed it with a standalone restaurant in 2017 then a burger truck in 2018, is now about to open a second brick-and-mortar restaurant.
He’s taking over the west-facing space at the Tyler Pointe strip center at 13th and Tyler that was occupied by Kolace until it closed in September. The new restaurant, which will be called Uno Mas Fresh Mex, will open on Thursday.
Rodriguez said that his new spot will have a menu that combines both the tacos he’s known for at his taco truck and his restaurant at 1920 W. 21st St. and the burgers he serves from his burger truck, Uno Mas Burgers, which hit the streets last April.
He’s been looking for a space that offers more room than his tiny taco shop at 1920 W. 21st St., which has only about 35 seats. The new space has almost double the room at 60 seats. Next week, Rodriguez said, he’ll add a drive-through at the new restaurant. And soon — possibly next month — Rodriguez plans to also add burgers to the menu at 21st and Amidon, too.
The new restaurant, like the original, will also serve beer. Its hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
As an incentive for people who haven’t yet tried Uno Mas to give it a shot, he’s offering a special Thursday through Sunday and will sell his combo meals for $6.99. A taco meal consists of two tacos, a side and a drink. A burger meal comes with garlic Parmesan fries and a drink.
Below, you’ll find the menu for the new restaurant.
