A 63-year-old Wichita man charged with stabbing his 64-year-old wife to death last month pleaded no contest to first-degree premeditated murder Thursday afternoon.

In exchange for Larry Andres’ plea in the killing of Marilyn Andres, prosecutors will recommend he receive parole eligibility on his life prison sentence after 25 rather than 50 years. Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett said in court that the agreement was made because Larry Andres called 911 not long after stabbing his wife with a kitchen knife at their home at 1113 S. Martinson on July 24, he confessed and cooperated with police and because of his failing health.

Reading from the plea agreement in court, Bennett said Andres beat his wife’s face as the couple argued, causing facial injuries, and decided to stab her at least six times in the chest as she lay in bed because he “wanted to end Marilyn’s suffering.”

“He made sure to aim the knife at her heart,” Bennett said. It’s unclear whether she was asleep at the time.

Andres will be sentenced Oct. 4. He remains in jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
