One arrested, another sought in shooting death

Wichita police have arrested one person and are looking for another in connection with the shooting death of a woman in her house near Kellogg and Hillside earlier this week.

A 21-year-old man was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail at about 7 a.m. Friday in connection with the death of Jacquelyn Harvey, 66, Lt. Todd Ojile said. Harvey was found dead in her house in the 300 block of South Chautauqua on Wednesday morning.

Police on Friday afternoon confirmed that Jacob Strouse, 21, is the person who was arrested. Jail records show Strouse is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, theft, criminal possession of a firearm and aggravated kidnapping. He is being held on a $250,000 bond, records show.

Authorities are also looking for Brittany Renee McDay, 22, as a suspect in Harvey’s death, Ojile said.

“Ever since Wednesday morning, detectives have been working diligently on gathering leads,” he said.

Investigators identified a person of interest late Thursday afternoon, and he was located a short time later in the 1600 block of South Seneca and taken into custody, Ojile said. As the investigation continued, two people were linked to the homicide.

The first suspect was arrested shortly after midnight near Harry and Meridian, Ojile said.

The 36-year-old man identified as a person of interest was ultimately arrested on an outstanding warrant but is not a suspect in the homicide, Ojile said.

Anyone with information about McDay’s location is asked to call 911, the homicide section at 316-268-4181 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

Harvey’s son found her at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when he took his son to her house, police have said. She had planned to take her grandson to school from there.

Police found her body with at least one gunshot wound. Her red Jeep Grand Cherokee and purse were stolen, police have said. The Jeep has since been found.

Harvey had recently hired two local companies to do construction work on her garage, but Ojile said Friday there was no indication the two homicide suspects are connected to the companies Harvey hired.
