Police identify woman found dead in home near Kellogg, Hillside
A woman who was found dead in her house Wednesday died from a gunshot wound, Wichita police said.
Police have no motive, no suspects and no leads yet in connection with her death – the 20th homicide in Wichita this year – Wichita police Lt. Todd Ojile said Thursday.
Police identified the woman as Jacquelyn Harvey, 66.
Her son found her at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when he took his son to her house in the 300 block of South Chautauqua, Ojile said. The house is near Kellogg and Hillside.
She had planned to take her grandson to school from there, police said. Police found her body with at least one gunshot wound. Her red Jeep Grand Cherokee and purse were stolen, Ojile said.
Police broadcast a description of the Jeep. Two third-shift officers notified their supervisors Wednesday afternoon that they saw a red Jeep Grand Cherokee parked in an alley in the 1600 block of South Seneca on Tuesday night. The officers were responding to a report of a suspicious character near the vehicle.
The Jeep had not been reported stolen and the homicide had not yet been discovered, so the officers left the vehicle there Tuesday. Police confirmed Wednesday the Jeep was Harvey’s.
Investigators are working so far with little information, Ojile said.
Harvey had recently hired two local companies to do construction work on her garage, and police have talked with them, Ojile said.
Harvey’s neighbors said she lived alone, walked her dogs and gave extra biscuits to neighbors’ dogs. She made crafts, and babysat her grandson when not working, neighbors said.
