Police are investigating the homicide of a 60-year-old woman in south Wichita.

Police responded at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to the 300 block of South Chautauqua on a reported death.

Police did not immediately release the woman’s identity.

Several police were going door-to-door Wednesday afternoon asking neighbors whether they knew anything.

Neighbors said the woman lived alone, walked her dogs every day and gave out extra biscuits to other dogs on the block. She also made crafts and exchanged ideas with one neighbor about her work. They also said she had recently finished work on her driveway and garage after around a year of work.

According to several neighbors she often babysat her grandson when she wasn’t working. Two neighbors said that on Wednesday morning they saw the woman’s daughter rush into the house and then come back out to hug the grandson who was upset.

The initial call to police was made by a family member.

Earlier in the day, police had asked for the public’s help in locating a red Jeep Grand Cherokee that was missing from the woman’s residence. The vehicle was located Wednesday evening in south Wichita.
