West Wichita shooting may have been self-defense, police say

The man who shot his neighbor’s son on Thursday may have done so in self-defense, Wichita police said.

An 81-year-old man and his 56-year-old son got in an argument at a home in the 600 block of North Parkdale at around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, Officer Charley Davidson said. The father became concerned and called his 73-year-old neighbor, who went to the house, which is near Central and Maize Road.

The 56-year-old man hit the neighbor multiple times before the neighbor shot the man once in the abdomen, Davidson said. He was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

No arrests had been made as of Friday morning; officers continue to investigate the shooting as a possible self-defense case, Davidson said.
