Wichita man attacked by armed robber while leaving for work

A 56-year-old man lost his wallet early Monday after an armed robber approached and struck him with a handgun as he was preparing to leave home for work.

The man suffered minor injuries to his face and mouth from the attack, which occurred outside of an apartment complex in the 3000 block of South George Washington Boulevard, near Oliver, at around 5:30 a.m. Wichita police Officer Charley Davidson said the robber came up to the man as his back was turned, pushed him and demanded his wallet.

As the man tried to turn around, the robber hit him with the weapon, took the wallet and ran away, Davidson said.

The robber is a black man likely in his 20s, about 6 feet tall with a medium build who was wearing a blue hat that covered his ears and mouth. He was carrying a small handgun, Davidson said.

Anyone with information or who knows the robber’s identity is asked to call Wichita police at 316-268-4407 or contact Wichita-Sedgwick County Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Tips can also be su bmitted online or via text message.

Monday’s is the third case of its kind Wichita police have discussed in recent days, although Davidson said there’s no immediate indication they’re related.

In the other two attacks, 71-year-old men were approached by armed individuals demanding items. One was out doing yard work. The other was walking his dog.
