Wichita’s west side is not getting a Marchello’s restaurant after all.
On Tuesday, owner Mikaeil “Mickey” Afsharpour told his Facebook followers that he had changed his mind about the second location that was planned for Northwest Center at 8404 W. 13th St.
Contacted at his original restaurant at 3107 S. Seneca, Afsharpour wouldn’t disclose the reason for his change of heart.
“We came into some problems and some other issues,” he said. “It was a business decision.”
Never miss a local story.
Afsharpour actually got the west-side restaurant remodeled, hung a sign and announced an opening day, which was Monday, July 24. He even opened the restaurant for a few hours.
But he quickly closed it the same day, and employees said it was because of oven issues.
Afsharpour still has the space, which formerly held Uncle Joe’s and Talliano’s. It’s possible that he’ll use it for a banquet space, he said, but he hasn’t decided.
His Facebook post also reminded people to visit his original location, which has been open for more than 20 years, serving pizza, pasta and more.
“We look forward to serving you our traditional, Wichita-favorite Italian dishes at our Seneca location and hope to see you soon!”
