It was all ready to go. The doors were set to open.
Then on Monday, an opening-day issue halted everything for Marchello’s second location at 13th and Tyler.
The oven wouldn’t work, so the opening was canceled. As of Friday morning, the oven was still having issues and managers said they weren’t sure when the restaurant would be ready.
The original location of Marchello’s has operated at 3107 S. Seneca for more than 20 years. The new restaurant is at Northwest Center at 13th and Tyler where pizza buffet restaurants Uncle Joe’s and Talliano’s once operated. The address is 8404 W. 13th St.
The restaurant, owned by Mikaeil “Mickey” Afsharpour, serves the type of Italian cuisine I like to call “WichItalian” because our city loves it and also eats it at Angelo’s and DeFazio’s. It’s hand-made pizzas, lasagnas baked until bubbling in oval metal dishes, and Italian salads with a bright orange, perfectly oily dressing.
I’ll let you know when Marchello’s is ready to give opening day another go.
