Wichita rocker tapped for gig alongside Def Leppard
It’s just the latest interesting twist in Jenny Wood’s touring schedule.
Wood, who last month opened for KISS frontman Gene Simmons at a show in Oklahoma, will play at the Rocklahoma music festival this weekend, headlined by bands like Def Leppard, Three Days Grace and Skillet.
Axis Entertainment, which puts on the festival, booked Wood on the schedule partially because of her experience opening for Simmons last month, she said.
“I just can’t believe it,” she said. “It’s a mad house of acts, then there’s a couple of local Oklahoma acts, and then there’s us.”
Wood is one of few female-fronted bands on the roster – which likely helped her case, she said.
She said she’s looking forward to playing alongside bands she grew up listening to – Fuel and others.
She’ll also have the opportunity to network with the regionally and nationally touring musicians on the lineup.
“It’s really nice to be able to share this space with the other bands,” she said. “I’m honored to share that space.”
As for the show with Simmons last month?
She said it was “really surreal.”
“Everyone was great to hang out with backstage,” she said. “Gene was very nice, and his band was amazing.”
The Rocklahoma festival is this weekend in Pryor, Okla. Wood will play at noon Sunday.
