Rain and up to an inch of snow in Wichita’s forecast for Tuesday night, NWS predicts
The National Weather Service is predicting up to an inch of snowfall in Wichita from a winter storm Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
While rain is expected to be much of the precipitation during the storm, higher snowfall amounts are expected in parts of the state that are farther north, the Wichita office of the National Weather Service predicts. Freezing rain or sleet were not in the forecast as of Monday afternoon, though meteorologists cautioned that weather conditions may make travel hazardous.
The weather forecast for Wichita specifically calls for a high of around 39 degrees on Tuesday, but wind gusts of up to 25 mph will drop the wind chill value to as low as negative 2 degrees. Rain and snow are expected to move into the area by Tuesday night, with an 80% chance for overnight precipitation. It will primarily be snow after 4 a.m., and up to an inch of snow accumulation is possible with a low temperature of around 34 degrees.
Wednesday morning’s forecast is a 60% chance for precipitation, which will be rain possibly mixed with snow. The forecast changes to only rain after noon. The daytime high will be near 42 degrees, with wind gusts as high as 26 mph. A 20% chance for rain continues into the overnight hours, where the low temperature will be around 34 degrees.
