A Newton man died in a collision that happened around 4:43 a.m. Thursday on U.S. Highway 59 south of Ottawa in Franklin County, Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs show.

The report says Bryce Crump, 31, of Newton, died when another vehicle crashed head-on into his pickup truck.

Weston Johnson, 18, of Garnett, was heading north on U.S. Highway 59 in a 2012 Mazda CX9; Crump was southbound on the same highway in a 2010 Toyota Tacoma. Johnson “crossed the center line and entered the southbound lanes” and struck Crump head-on, crash logs say.

Crump was pronounced dead at the scene. Johnson was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park with serious injuries, according to the report.
