The Wichita area could see a rough start to the weekend, with the possibility of severe storms starting Thursday night and increasing Friday night in south central and southeast Kansas.

There’s a 30 percent chance of storms between 10 p.m. Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Kelly Butler.

If they do develop, storms could bring half-inch hail and 60 mph wind gusts along a dry line spanning from Saline County to Sedgwick and Kingman counties. Areas affected will be east of the line, Butler said.

There’s a 40 to 60 percent chance of storms developing Friday evening, around 4 to 7 p.m., along the same dry line, Kelly said.

These storms could bring baseball-sized hail and damaging 70 mph winds. Storms are expected to taper off starting around midnight, Kelly said.
