Authorities are searching for a motorcyclist who was thrown into the Ohio River after colliding with a vehicle.

Officers were called to the Taylor Southgate Bridge, which runs across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Newport, Kentucky, for reports of a collision at about 8 p.m. June 28, according to a news release from the Newport Police Department.

A motorcycle crashed into the back of a vehicle that was stopped in traffic, causing the motorcycle driver to be thrown from the bike over the side of the bridge, police said.

After the driver landed in the river, “several people jumped into the water to try and help,” WCPO reported. However, law enforcement pulled them out.

Rescue teams from both Ohio and Kentucky began looking for the driver, and the search has continued into June 30, the outlet reported.

The Boone County Water Rescue Team urged boaters to “remain on the Kentucky side of the river and idle through the downtown Cincinnati area until further notice.”
