Man, 18, charged with murder in fatal shooting on South Terrace

Sedgwick County Jail

An 18-year-old arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man last week has been charged with first-degree felony murder.

Emmanuel E. Crosby made his first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court on the charge Tuesday afternoon, as well as on counts of distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is accused of killing David Ingram after Ingram and his 23-year-old girlfriend picked up Crosby and another man to sell them narcotics, Wichita police have said.

The shooting occurred in the 1100 block of South Terrace, near Lincoln and Oliver, at about 4:15 p.m. Thursday. Ingram was the front-seat passenger in the vehicle when he was shot, and his girlfriend was the driver, police have said.

Crosby and the other man were in the back seat. They fled afterward.

Ingram, who was shot several times, was not breathing when he was taken to Wesley Medical Center. He was pronounced dead about 40 minutes after the shooting. Police have said they think the shooting was an attempted robbery.

Crosby on Tuesday was being held in Sedgwick County Jail on bonds totaling more than $1 million. Most of that is for warrants in unrelated juvenile cases, according to jail records. His prior criminal history includes burglary, theft and weapons charges.

Crosby is due back in court for his next hearing on Nov. 3. He told District Judge Joe Kisner he plans to hire his own attorney.

Ingram’s death is the 21st homicide investigated by Wichita police so far this year.
