2 people in custody after fatal shooting in car on South Terrace
Wichita police have two people in custody in connection with a homicide Thursday in southeast Wichita, according to a Sedgwick County emergency dispatcher.
Two “armed and extremely dangerous” suspects were sought in the shooting of a man in his 20s “multiple times” around 4 p.m. Thursday, Lt. James Espinoza said.
The victim and the two suspects were all passengers in a car being driven by a woman in the 1100 block of South Terrace; the victim was sitting in the front seat and the two suspects sat in the rear, Espinoza said.
That’s near Lincoln and Oliver.
Police think the shooting happened while the car was traveling south on Terrace, Espinoza said. The two suspects fled the scene.
The victim was not breathing when he was taken to Wesley Medical Center, according to the dispatcher. He was pronounced dead around 5 p.m.
The woman who was driving was not injured, Espinoza said.
Police have been interviewing her, trying to determine the relationships among everyone in the vehicle, he said.
The suspects were described by witnesses at the scene as men in their late teens to early 20s, wearing T-shirts and shorts. One possibly had a backpack, Espinoza said.
Two people were in custody about three hours later, but the dispatcher said there was still a heavy police presence on the scene Thursday evening.
Espinoza is asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
Police are expected to release more information at a 10 a.m. media briefing on Friday.
The man is Wichita’s 21st homicide victim of 2015.
