The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office on Monday released photographs and asked for the public’s help in finding a sport utility vehicle thought to have been used as the getaway car in a fatal July shooting in the Oaklawn area just south of Wichita.

The grainy black-and-white pictures show a large SUV, thought to be a Ford product, dark in color with tinted windows.

Investigators say the car is thought to have been used in the July 14 slaying of Welly Syakhasone. Syakhasone, 23, was shot to death just after 6 a.m. in the 4600 block of South Brookhaven.

The investigators said they think as many as three people may have left the scene in the SUV after the shooting.

“Detectives also believe the owner of the vehicle may not be aware that their vehicle was used in the homicide,” said a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Anyone with information on the vehicle or the shooting can call the Sheriff’s Office at 316-660-5300 or provide information anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
