A woman employed as a Cheyenne County dispatcher and her son were arrested Tuesday by agents with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation on suspicion of child abuse.

It comes after a several-months-long investigation led by the state agency at the request of the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office, a press release from the KBI read. The 49-year-old mother, who was accused of endangering an unspecified number of children, was employed as a dispatcher with the county at the time of the alleged abuse.

The investigation into the suspected child abuse began in September 2025, and the 49-year-old woman’s children were placed in protective custody, the release said.

On April 28, KBI agents arrested the 49-year-old mother from St. Francis, as well as her 20-year-old son from Goodland. Both were arrested and booked on suspicion of two counts of child abuse and two counts of aggravated endangering a child. Child abuse and aggravated endangering a child are felony crimes.
