A Wichita man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident near the Sedgwick County Zoo last weekend, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said.

The collision, which was reported just after midnight on March 15, killed 29-year-old pedestrian Adam Wayne Condit of Wichita. A motorist involved in the crash left the scene, prompting the Sheriff’s Office to put out a call for tips in order to identify the vehicle and its driver.

The day after the crash, deputies with the agency found the damaged dark blue Dodge Ram 1500 involved in the collision thanks to tipsters. The driver was not immediately identified but on Friday, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a press release, a 21-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the fatal hit-and-run. The Wichita Eagle does not name people who have been arrested unless they are charged.

The 21-year-old Wichita man has since been booked into the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility on suspicion of failure to stop at an accident. As of Sunday morning, he was being held without bond in the main jail.

A GoFundMe for Condit, who was described as an avid welder and a fun guy with an up-for-anything spirit, has been set up to cover funeral expenses.

“He was a son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, and his tragic death has left a hole in so many hearts,” the fundraiser description read.

The GoFundMe has raised nearly $12,000 of its $15,000 goal as of Sunday morning. Anything beyond what will be used for funeral expenses, the fundraiser description read, will go toward a scholarship set up in Condit’s name for students who share his passion for welding.

A fundraiser for 29-year-old Adam Wayne Condit has raised almost $12,000 as of Sunday, March 22. Condit was killed in a hit-and-run near the Sedgwick County Zoo on March 15.
