One killed in hit-and-run near zoo; Sheriff’s Office seeking tips
A 29-year-old Wichita man was killed early Sunday in a hit-and-run near the Sedgwick County Zoo, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said.
The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was struck in the 5800 block of West Windmill Road just after midnight. Witnesses to the crash, a press release from the Sheriff’s Office detailed, stopped to assist after the vehicle suspected to have hit the pedestrian, a black Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, left the scene.
Now, members of the Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Team and detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Based on debris found at the crash scene, investigators believe the vehicle is a model between 2013 and 2022. The Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was last seen traveling west on Windmill Road, toward 13th Street North and Ridge Road.
“The truck ... is expected to have noticeable damage to the front driver’s side, including a broken grille,” the Sheriff’s Office press release read.
