Wichita man, 66, sentenced for killing older brother during fight at apartment
A 66-year-old Wichita man was sentenced Tuesday to 14 years in prison for killing his older brother during a scuffle in 2020.
Thomas Harris received a 168-month sentence, said Lyndsee Stover, spokeswoman for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. He was also ordered to serve three years of post-release supervision, she said.
Harris pleaded guilty in June to voluntary manslaughter and attempted second-degree murder in the Oct. 12, 2020, shooting death of 68-year-old Troy L. Harris. Troy Harris called 911 around 1 p.m. that day after he was shot in the chest while visiting his brother’s apartment at 2713 S. Emporia, near Pawnee and Broadway.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Thomas Harris pulled the gun and fired multiple times at his older brother inside the apartment during an argument over pain pills. Thomas Harris told police he grabbed the gun to scare his upset brother and the gun went off as they wrestled over it.
