A 19-year-old Wichita man has been charged with first-degree felony murder and child abuse in the September death of his newborn daughter.

Zachariah Ramone Howard is scheduled to make a first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court on Tuesday afternoon in connection with the Sept. 18 death of 3-week-old Mulani Howard. He is currently being held in the Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond, jail records show.

Mulani was pronounced dead at a Wichita hospital after she was found unresponsive around 8 a.m. Sept. 18 in her home in the 4200 block of South Hydraulic, police records show.

The criminal complaint filed against Howard accuses him of killing her while he was committing or attempting to commit an act of child abuse. He is also accused of abusing the infant by torturing, cruelly beating, cruelly striking or cruelly kicking her, court records show.
