Authorities have arrested three teenagers in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian Wednesday evening outside of Great Bend.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that the teens were arrested following a vehicle stop around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Broadway and Jackson Street in Great Bend. The truck “matched the description provided by witnesses” in the hit-and-run collision that killed 58-year-old Curtis Scott Cregger of Great Bend, the sheriff’s office said.

“Further investigation confirmed this was the vehicle involved,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The 17-year-old driver has been charged with second-degree murder. The 17-year-old and 14-year-old passengers have been charged with accessory to murder in the second degree, according to a news release.

“Due to all three suspects being juveniles, no further information will be released,” the sheriff’s office said.

Earlier Thursday, the sheriff’s office said they were investigating Cregger’s death as a homicide and that it appeared likely he was run down on purpose.

Law enforcement found Cregger injured in the 100 block of Chisholm Trail around 6:42 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a hit-and-run collision in the area.

“Officers immediately began CPR and other lifesaving measures in an attempt to aid the victim. He was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital and later pronounced deceased,” the sheriff’s office said.

“Investigation at the scene as well as witness statements indicate the possibility this was an intentional act.”
