A southeast Kansas firefighter was arrested Wednesday for allegedly committing sex crimes against a child, according to a news release from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

The 25-year-old Baxter Springs man was booked into the Cherokee County Jail at 9:46 a.m. Wednesday on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a child and aggravated indecent solicitation of a child, according to the news release and jail booking records.

The Eagle does not name suspects in criminal cases until they are formally charged in court.

The KBI says the man is a firefighter for the Coffeyville Fire Department. He had no bond amount listed in online jail records Thursday morning.

KBI agents arrested the man around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday during a traffic stop in Cherokee County. Agents and deputies from the local sheriff’s office also executed a search warrant at a home in Baxter Springs related to the case, the news release says.

No other details about the alleged crimes were immediately available from the KBI.

“The investigation is ongoing,” the news release says.

The agency is asking anyone with information related to its investigation to call the KBI at 800-KS-CRIME or submit an anonymous tip at www.kbi.ks.gov/sar.
