Father charged in fatal shooting of infant daughter at south Wichita home
A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his infant daughter in south Wichita.
Michael Tejeda of Wichita was formally charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the commission of a felony, two counts of aggravated child endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, court records show.
Police were called at 8:36 p.m. Friday for a shooting at a home in the 2200 block of South Santa Fe. Officers found the 1-year-old girl who had been shot in her upper body. She was taken to a hospital where she died at 9:27 p.m. Police chose not to release her name.
Another child was in the home and was placed police protective custody. The mother of the children was interviewed and then released, The Eagle reported.
This is at least the city’s second homicide so far this year, according to reports from police. There were 12 at this time last year.
